Between January 2017 and October 2019, Atlantic Beef Products completed the “Green Atlantic – Lean and Green Coaching Program”. This program, offered in partnership with Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters and Green Enterprise Movement Inc., was designed to embed Lean and Green thinking into daily operations to drive Environmental and overall Sustainability performance. As part of this program, ABPI Management and Staff completed training on the Lean and Green process, underwent a third party Lean and Green Diagnostic to identify opportunities for improvement and completed a series of structured coaching sessions to develop and begin execution of their environmental strategy. The following outcomes were realized by ABPI:
– A sound environmental strategy that includes a high-level Vision for Environmental Performance, supporting strategic pillars to focus efforts, KPI’s to monitor, track and report performance, clear goals to set performance expectations and detailed action plans to support implementation of solutions to achieve goals. – A plan to help support execution of the strategy in the form of a Change management Plan. – Increased awareness and knowledge around the concept of Sustainability and in particular, Environmental Sustainability. – Increased internal capacity to drive and improve environmental performance moving forward. – Numerous tools, templates and resources to support ongoing environmental performance.
Atlantic Beef Products Inc. has a strong history of Sustainable beef processing practices. ABPI’s commitment to Sustainability runs deep with efforts across their entire value chain. From resource conservation to animal welfare and supporting local farmers to community giving, ABPI is a true leader in Sustainability for the beef industry. Through completion of the “Green Atlantic: Lean and Green Coaching Program”, ABPI has built on their existing efforts and enhanced their ability to continuously improve, monitor and track environmental performance. These efforts are further enhanced through their certification to the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef. It is a pleasure and inspiration to collaborate with an organization that is authentically committed to driving Sustainability and building a more resilient food system in Canada.
